The kaskara is a direct descendant of the European Crusader sword of the Middle Ages. This example features a simple cruciform hilt with straight diamond section crossguard and langets. The disc shaped pommel is covered in leather and the grip is wrapped with cord. Triple fullered 32-3/4" straight double edged blade stamped with twin man-in-the-moon marks on each side; these marks are believed to be the maker's marks of either Juan Martin (or Martinez) of Spain prior to the 18th century; German manufacturer's are known to have used this mark also in conjunction with the running wolf of Passau. Overall length is ~38".
