French Modele 1882
Infantry Officer's Sword

This was the standard French Infantry Officer's Sword in use from 1882 through WWI. It replaced the French Model 1845/55 and is a major change in style technology. The blade is straight with offset single fullers (both sides).

This sword bears the hallmark of François Delacour & Backes of Paris, France. This mark is incredibly similar to that of Paul D. Luneschloss of Solingen, Germany.

It has a nickel-plated hilt with a wood grip wrapped in ornamental brass wire.

On French swords, the ricasso is generally stamped with the mark of the Director, the Controller and the Reviser of the arsenal; this is especially true with swords manufactured at the Klingenthal arsenal in France. On trooper swords these marks are found on the guard as well.
