Spanish Modelo 1881
Yatagan Artillery Sword/Machete



Scarce Spanish Modelo 1881 Machete or Yatagan Infantry Hanger (short sword), manufactured at the national arsenal at Toledo circa 1881-1916. These were carried during the Spanish-American War mainly by Spanish soldiers associated with artillery.
Wood checkered grips, steel pommel and crossguard. Blade ricasso is marked, "ARTILLERIA FABRICA DE TOLEDO".
Overall length is ~28-3/4"; yatagan or re-curved blade is ~23-3/8" in length.
Scabbard is black leather body with sheet steel throat and drag.
