German "Hunting" Sword or
"Gentleman's" Hanger


Elaborate German Hunting Sword, of a type commonly found in the Germanic countries from the 1700s into the 1900s; these are sometimes categorized as daggers. Nazi Germany continued use of this as a dagger (see images below).
These were used by "gentlemen" for personal protection and for delivering the finishing touches on wounded game in lieu of wasting more shot.
This example has a stag-horn hilt, gilt covered metal furniture.
They come in various blades, decorations, and sizes.
