German Fencing Foil

Early fencing foil, circa mid-to-late-1800s, SOLINGEN marked.

Overall length is ~36-3/4";

Hilt is ~7-1/2" in length - including cup-guard; steel metal furniture; wood grip, wrapped in leather and wrapped with a brass wire; pommel-cap is an "upside-down" cone and held in place by a compressed ferrule arrangement.


Straight four-edged rectangular blade is ~28-3/4" in length, ~3/8" wide and ~1/4" thick at ricasso; unfullered, blunt (rounded) ball-tip finial; blade is marked with the "center-of-percussion" symbols, "SOLINGEN", and the number "4". Manufacturer is unknown.
