Cavalry Trooper's Saber

This is a British Pattern 1853 Cavalry Trooper's Sword manufactured from the period of about 1853 to about 1865; various modifications are known. These swords saw service service in the Crimean War and were also exported to a number of countries - including the Confederacy during the American Civil War.
Slightly curved single-edged blade with squared back-edge; single fuller (both sides).
Overall length is ~40"; blade length is ~34-1/2".
All steel construction eith the exception of the checkered black pressed leather grips and five copper retaining rivets. This pattern was superceded by the British Pattern 1864 Cavalry Trooper's Saber and subsequently the British Pattern 1885 Cavalry Trooper's Saber .
