US Model 1905/42 Springfield Bayonet

This bayonet is an original US Model 1905 that was arsenal refurbished in 1942; these refurbished bayonets are more commonly known as the US Model 1905/42.

This particular one was manufactured at the Springfield Armory in 1917; they were manufactured at the Sprinfield Armory originally from 1906 to 1922 and at the Rock Island Armory from 1906 to 1913. The grips were changed from wood to black plastic in 1942; blades were blued or parkerized.

They bayonets are well made, all steel, with plastic grips. The hilt configuration is considered a "bird's head" pommel with the standard push-button/integral spring latch, steel crossguard; plastic grips are held on by a single screw.
The blade is steel, single-stopped-fuller (both sides), single-cutting-edge with short false-edge towards the tip.
Blades are marked US over a serial number on one side of the ricasso; arsenal over ordnance bomb over a date - between 1906 and 1922 - on the opposite side.

Scabbards are green "plastic" but more accurately classified as fiberglass; sheet-steel throat with displaying US centered in ordnance bomb logo.
