US Model 1861 Whitneyville contract musket, dated 1864 on lock-plate. Good inspector's cartouche on left side of stock near rear lock-plate screw (see images) as well as on the barrel. Rear sights have been replaced with a fixed dove-tail style (most likely a field replacement. Rear sling swivel has been removed. Entire gun has been coated in varnish; this was a common practice used in the past by museums to protect inventory.
Barrel length is ~33-3/4", overall length is ~49-3/4". Buttplate tang is stamped, "US".

Very good condition overall.
Used gun; antique; not sold as a shooter; no warranty implied or given. Please have any gun you intend to shoot - in any fashion - checked by a competent gunsmith.
