German Field Artillery Officer's Saber, standard dove-head pattern initially adopted circa 1890, in use by Imperial German forces in WWI and smaller bladed versions by 3rd Reich forces in WWII. Overall length in scabbard is ~42-1/4"; overall length out of scabbard is ~37".
Original bright nickeled hilt components with over 90% finish remaining. One small imperfection in grip wrap near grips ears (see images).
Blade is beautifully etched, blued panel displays words, "1. Nass. Feldartill. Reg. No.27. Oranien" (1st Nassauisches, Field Artillery Regiment 27, Oranien).Blade length is ~31-7/8". Several very minor edge nicks, otherwise excellent condition. Unmarked/unknown maker.
Scabbard is bright nickel-plated, perhaps over 90% original finish remaining. Several small dings with one larger scabbard-width crease ~5" up from bottom of drag (see images).
According to research, during WWI, 1. Nassauisches Feld-Artillerie-Regiment No. 27, Oranien was home stationed at Mainz/Wiesbaden under the auspices of the German XVIII Army Corps, Hesse District; Headquarters & Principal Garrison Towns - Frankfurt a/M, Mainz, Darmstadt, Worms. More research is needed.
