This is a regulation military cadet sword adopted circa 1875 by various military academies and schools. This particular example sword is from Howe Military School [Howe, Indiana] (1884-present) and will date from about 1920 up to about 1998. The Howe Military School program "is a registered U.S. Army JROTC unit and has been designated an Honor Unit with Distinction by the Department of Defense."
Manufactured by N.S. Meyer, Inc., Army/Navy Equipment, circa 1920-1998, SPARTAN trade mark. Brass/gilt hilt with cast white metal grip.
Blade is etched with the Seal of the State of Indiana followed by "FIDES ET HONOR"; panel where a name is normally etched is un-used (no name displayed); reverse is etched, "HOWE MILITARY SCHOOL" flanked by crossed rifles.
Overall length in scabbard is ~40-1/4"; overall length out of scabbard is ~ 39-3/4"; blade length is ~33-3/4".
Overall condition is very-good to excellent.
Current military regulation, 1875-2008.
