This is a long version of the Spanish 1893 "Short" Mauser Knife Bayonet with one other rather subtle difference: it has checkered-wood grips - whereas the short bayonet has smooth-wood grips. This bayonet was designed to fit the Spanish Mauser Rifle (Fusil) Model of 1893; later on the Spanish Mauser Short Rifle (Mosqueton) Model 1916.
Most of these bayonets were manufactured at - and stamped - "Artilleria F-Nacionale Toledo" in one of about three different configurations.
The hilt construction is steel, with steel rudimentary "bird's head" pommel, steel crossguard with muzzle-ring, and - as mentioned before - checkered-wood grips.
The blade is single-edged, single-fullered (both sides) with manufacturer's stamp on one side of the ricasso, serial number on the cross-guard.
Scabbard is of steel throat and drag, mounted on black leather body; tear-drop frog stud on the throat, with ball finial on the drag.
According to "Janzen's Notebook," this bayonet was also used by Mexico (and very possibly Portugal).
I should mention that this long bayonet was for use on the Spanish Mauser "Short" Infantry Rifle, whereas the short bayonet was for use on the standard Spanish ontract "Long" Mauser Infantry Rifle; such was the thinking of the times: short rifle, long bayonet; long rifle, short bayonet. This kept the thrusting distance the same.
Good condition overall.
