US Model 1913 "Patton" Cavalry Sword, LFC 1918
1913patton1918lfc001 - !!! SOLD !!!
This is an original US Model 1913 Cavalry Sword (aka "Patton" sword) manufactured 1913-1918. It was designed by the Lieutenant George Patton (later General Patton of WWII fame) circa 1910. This was considered the perfect cavalry sword of the time. This model was the last cavalry sword issued by the US Cavalry and the issuance of swords to the cavalry ended circa 1934. These swords were not intended to be worn by a person, but were designed to attach to a trooper's saddle. Intended to be solely a thrusting weapon, not a slashing weapon as with previous curved cavalry sabers.
Sheet steel cup guard with black hard plastic grips. Blade is steel with single un-stopped fuller (both sides). Ricasso is stamped with "U.S." over the eagle proof over what appears to be "No12", small "O" or "C" off to the right; reverse side displays the Ordnance Bomb flanked by "L.F." then "& C." (for Landers, Frary, & Clark) over "1913". Off to the right is what appears to be issue number "63".
Overall length in scabbard is ~43"; overall length out of scabbard is ~42-1/2"; blade length is ~35-1/4".
Scabbard is steel throat and drag with grenn fiberglass body.
Overall condition is about good. Metal hilt components have been painted black; scabbard body has been painted green (olive drab). Blade is in very good condition.
