US Model 1840 Musician's sword by Ames Manufacturing Company, Chicopee, Massachusetts, circa 1862, placing the sword in service prior to many major conflicts of the Civil War and very desirable to collectors. This style sword is known to have been carried by band leaders/musicians and other troops during the American Civil War.
Overall length is ~34-1/2"; blade length is ~28".
Blade is stamped with the scroll, "Made by / Ames Mfg.Co. / Chicopee..." on reverse, obverse is stamped with "U.S./J.H./1862" [this indicates the sword was inspected by either John or Joseph Hannis, US arsenal inspector(s) circa 1862].
NOTE: No scabbard.
Sword is in good to very-good condition overall.
