Infantry (Foot) Officer's Sword (saber) from the mid-1800s. It has a very French appearance and could be a variant of the 1821 pattern. Handle has been "field" modified as the D-guard is partially missing and what remains forms a rudimentary rearward-swept quillon; side branches have also been removed as part of the modification; upper quillon remains intact with finial. Hilt material actually appears more bronze than brass as with the French Model 1821 Infantry Officer's Saber; grip appears to be wood or perhaps horn. No markings that I can find, so the actual country of origin or maker are unknown. Could be a Civil War-era import, but I could not speculate on North or South if at all. Overall length is ~35-1/4"; blade length is ~29-1/2" with ~6" false-edge. Stopped primary fuller with small un-stopped secondary fuller at back-edge of blade; primary fuller length is ~23-1/4"; upper fuller is ~14-1/4". NOTE: No scabbard.
