This is an original U.S. Model 1862 sword bayonet - used extensively during the Civil War - originally supplied on the US Model 1862 "Zouave" Percussion Rifles produced by Remington (see The American Bayonet by Hardin, pages 99-100, number 74).
Solid brass hilt with steel yatagan (slight recurve) blade. Brass hilt is stamped with the typical "BH" on the grip flat, upper; cross-guard is stamped on the left side with the letter "C", the right is stamped with the letter "L". Blade has been lightly sharpened.
Overall length is scabbard is ~25-5/8"; overall length out of scabbard is ~25"; blade length is ~20-1/8".
Scabbard is black leather body, mounted into sheet-rolled-brass attached by two rivets on mouthpiece and chape. Chape (drag) is very loosely attached and should be handled with care as the leather at that location is very fragile.
Good condition overall with exceptions noted.
