Zulu Ishilunga "Kaffir" hunting shield, common to Souther Africa. Oval-shape cowhide with hair remaining, strengthened by interwoven strips of cowhide and a lengthwise stick on the backside (doubling as a grip).
Overall length example is ~35"; cowhide measures ~28" in length by ~17-1/2" in width.
Overall good condition.
