Original Sharps New Model 1863, Saddle-Ring Carbine; .52 caliber percussion, breech-loader, lever-action, single-shot, ~22" round barrel, blued finish, walnut stock, case-hardened receiver. Stamped on the left side of receiver, "C.SHARPS PAT / SEPT.12th 1848"; on right side of receiver, "RS LAWRENCE PAT / APRIL 12th 1859" over "C.SHARPS' PAT. / OCT.5th 1852."; serial number, "97666" is stamped on upper reveiver tang.
This is a good example of the Sharps New Model Carbine. There is a crack in the butt-stock propagating from the lower butt-plate screw, forward, to the lower receiver tang, both sides; it has not detached (see images).
