british1903ws49

$350.00

Scarce and unusual British Pattern 1903 Bayonet and Scabbard for the SMLE (Short Magazine Lee-Enfield) Rifle. Unusual maker marking as it is stamped, "SANDERSON SHEFFIELD". Various British proofs and is dated 1903. Pommel appears to be stamped, "188" on the right side and "49" on the left.
Unusual brown leather scabbard with sheet brass throat and chape (drag). It is also unusual in that it has a loop near the chape as if to attach a strap, perhaps as if strapped to the leg as with a fighting knife (see images).
Overall length in scabbard is ~17-1/8"; overall length out of scabbard is ~16-3/4";blade length is ~12". Wood two-piece grips held in place by two screws/nuts; steel pommel and guard.
Fair to good condition overall; needs cleaning and TLC.
