Original French Model 1822 Cavalry Pistol or "Pistolet d'Arçon Modèle 1822 T Bis". These were converted from the Model 1816 Flintlock Cavalry Pistol and converted to percussion at various times beginning circa 1822. This one is dated 1830. Rifled bore with ramrod that is also used as a powder measure.
Stock is stamped with various French marks, including, "TULLE" as well as "MUTZIG" and serial number "864". The barrel is stamped, "C de 17-6A" over what appears to be the conversion serial number "1286" and it appears this is overstamping the original serial number, perhaps 864; barrel tang is stamped, "Mle 1822 bis". Lockplate indicates manufacture at "St. Etienne" arsenal as so stamped. Believd to be ~.70 caliber (~17.7mm).
A great collector's item.
Good condition with the only major flaw being a crack in the stock ~2" from the butt, propagating from the rear butt-cap-tang-screw from back to front (see images).
