French Model 1829 Mounted Artillery Saber manufactured circa 1831. Brass D-guard hilt, leather grip wrapped with twisted-brass wire. Various inspector's marks; various accountability marks, some cancelled. Number on guard is 137 and this matches on the scabbard (see images). Manufacturer's information is in script on back of blade but is difficult to read; the last part of it states Julliet 1831 (July 1831).
This style sword was copied by the United States as the Model 1840 Light Artillery Saber (aka Horse Artillery Saber).
Overall length in scabbar is ~39"; overall length out of scabbard is ~37-1/2"; blade length is ~32".
Very good condition overall.
