Socket bayonet originally for use on the Dornbuchse M/1849 rifles circa 1849-1851, converted and reissued as the Suhler Tapriffel Model 1854.
Unique locking spring designed by Johan Christian Wilken Kyhl, first introduced in 1794. The Kyhl spring catch was used on Danish bayonets from 1794-1860. Original serial number "134" and re-issue year "1854" are on blade flat; re-issue serial number "9202" and year "1855" stamped into socket barrel. Danish proof "crown over K" is stamped into shank. Unit stamped "S.H.IX.C.55" on socket barrel (stands for Schleswig Holstein 9th Battalion, Company C, Weapon 55"). These so-marked bayonets are associated with the Schleswig Holstein Rebellion circa 1848-1852.
These bayonets are also known to have been used on their corresponding muskets during the American Civil War, acquired by various agents in Europe from the North and South.
Good condition overall.
