Imperial German Bavarian Model 1889 Officer's Degen or straight sword from about 1889 to about WWI; unusual folding right and left knuckle-guards; single-edged, single-fullered blade; no visible maker's mark but the number 79 is tamped into the left ricasso.
Blade is ~30-3/4" in length; overall length is ~36-3/4". Etched into blade is the motto, "IN TREUE FEST" (both sides). Brown Bakelite grip.
This pattern of sword was also used by Bavaria, Prussia, Saxony, amd Wurttemburg - the only basic differences being the Royal Cypher/Heraldic Crest on the guard; this one is for Bavaria.
Overall good condition. Crack/chip out of right side of grip at guard (see images).
