Wonderful find! British Pattern 1796 Light Dragoon Flintlock Pistol, unit marked, "1.K.G.L.D" believed for "1st King's German Light Dragoons". The 1st KGLD's were positioned on Wellington's right at the battle of Waterloo and were active in other engagements prior. The pistol is also marked with the troop and issue number. "A/73". All cavalry units were divided into troops designated by letters (A, B, C, etc.) and each troop had typically 76 troopers. This would be Troop A, Trooper 73. If only I knew who that was! Also has what appears to be an original ramrod, still with 'worm' tool on end. Barrel is Board of Ordnance, Tower of London 'private' proofed; stock is stamped "JT" (perhaps an ordnance storekeeper's mark). Lock is marked "TOWER" (rear of the cocking piece) and "crown over GR" (forward of the cocking piece) as well as the government ownership stamp to its right.
Good condition overall with major flaws noted - minor cracking to stock near lock, appears to have had a tack as a retainer in the lower crack at some point (see images); upper jaw and upper jaw screw have been replaced, professionally hand-crafted to closely match the originals; various other minor stock dings, scratches, discoloration, etc.
A wonderful piece of history!
Used gun; antique; not sold as a shooter; no warranty implied or given. Please have any gun you intend to shoot - in any fashion - checked by a competent gunsmith.
