Blade for Light Cavalry Saber
$115.00
BLD1860LCS001A

This is a sword blade only for a light cavalry saber, perhaps the US New Model Light Cavalry of the 1860s. It was reportedly found "on a battle field in Oklahoma." Unfortunately, I did not make notes of the location/place name and have had it set back for years.
Overall length is ~39-1/2" (peen area of tang was broken off at some time, no hilt remains); blade length is ~35"; blabde width at ricasso is ~1-1/8"; thickness is ~5/16". No maker's marks or stampes are visisble but it is very similar to contract swords of the period, not unlike an Ames or Roby.
As mentioned, the tang is broken where the peened area would have been; tang length is ~4-3/8". Blade has been sharpened and has numerous edge nicks (see images).
Sold as is.

British Pattern 1897 Infantry Officer's Sword
$350.00
britpat1897ioswd001a

British Pattern 1897 Infantry Officer's Sword. Proof plug press inserted into ricasso is marked "HW" in script for Henry Wilikinson of Wilkinson Sword Company of London, England. This logo/plug was inserted into their "better" swords. Due to the blade and hilt bearing the Royal Cypher of Edward VII, this sword was most likely manufactured between 1901-1910, the term of his reign.
Overall length in scabbard is ~40-1/2"; overall length out of scabbard is ~38-3/4"; blade length is ~32-1/4".
Very good blade with good etching, no pitting, no obvious tarnish. Hilt grip has been repaired, wrap replaced.
Good intact scabbard with two hanger ringlets; tubular sheet-rolled-steel, nickel plated with ~50% remaining; scattered dark oxide mainly towards drag; two small dents just above drag.
Good to very-good condition overall.

French fencing epee/foil, circa 1900; unknown manufacturer.
Leather-wrapped wood grip; steel faceted pommel, deep dish aluminum guard with "#1" scratched into the inner bowl face; green felt liner.
Blade is straight, triangular in cross-section with deep face fuller and shallow side fullers; sharp tip. Blade length is ~34-3/8". Overall length is ~42-3/4"
Overall condition is about good; blade displays surface rust but should clean up nicely; slight bend in blade (see images).

French Modele 1887 Artillery/Grenadier Officer's Epee
$527.00 $450.00 On Sale!
french1887epee001

French Model 1887 Line Officer's Sword with Grenadier/Artillery Badge (Ordnance Bomb or Grenade) on the outer guard clamshell. Very nice scarce sword with Grenadier affiliation. Manufactured at the Chatellerault Arsenal in 1907.
Hilt is very similar to the US Model 1840 NCO sword. Clamshell guard with the inner clamshell laying flat and the outer slightly extended. On this clamshell is displayed the brass "grenade"; hilt appears to be silver plated.
Blade is three-edged T-shaped, much like the Modele 1874 Gras Epee bayonet. Blade inscription states the arsenal, manufacture month and year, as well as the sword regulation pattern (see images). Overall length in scabbard is ~39-1/8"; overall length out of scabbard is ~38-1/2"; blade length is ~32"; scabbard length is ~32-1/2".
Condition is about very good to excellent with only minor flaws.

Infantry Hanger, Brass Hilt, circa mid-1700s
$600.00 $540.00 On Sale!
HANGERBRASS113A

European Infantry Hanger (or short saber), believed German or other Baltic country, dating circa 1720-1760. Many countries used similar curved short swords, including Britain (Pattern 1742), Russia (Pattern 1756), Germany, Denmark (Pattern 1838), etc. The main feature that helps date this one it the screw-attachment method at the pommel-end of the D-guard; this helps date this form early to mid 1700s, but perhaps as late as 1780s as far as issue. Another feature is the tight grip spiral; this is usually Germanic in origin. Overall length is ~30".
Cast brass two-piece hilt composite - counter-guard/D-guard and grip. Small "crown" is visible on the upper quillon finial (this is the only obvious mark found).
Curved single-edge fullered blade is ~24-1/4" in length, including ~5" false-edge. Blade width is ~1-3/8" by ~1/4" thick at ricasso.
NOTE: No scabbard.
These swords were available during both the American and French revolutions, (several examples are listed in "Swords & Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Neuman, author).
Condition is about good overall with scattered pitting on blade; D-guard attaching screw is missing.
