Italian Mannlicher-Carcano Model 1891/38 Cavalry Carbine, 6.5x52 Carcano, 6 round inline nondetachable box magazine, barley corn front sight, fixed rear sight. Manufactured by Gardone Val Trompia ("Gardone VT" on barrel near breech) Italy in 1940. Stock is stamped "FAG / 40" and barrel is stamped "940XVIII" (the 940 being an abbreviated 1940 and the Roman numerals being Fascist-era dating).
This carbine was equipped with a permanently attached folding 4-edged spike-style bayonet but bayonet and attaching hardware are missing with exception of the mounting bracket. Trapdoor buttplate for storing sectional cleaning rod inside.
