Belgian Sea Service Flintlock Holster Pistol

Belgian Sea Service Flintlock Holster Pistol; .69 caliber; circa 1810-1840.
Could have been used in the Napoleonic Wars, the War of 1812, or perhaps the Texas Revolution.
The only external marking on this pistol is a "Crown / O N" stamped into the lockplate, forward of - and partially obscured by - the hammer. Underside of barrel near the breech are the typical Belgian proof marks.

Please e-mail C. Alan Russell if further details or images are required.

Not for sale outside the USA; must be 18 years of age, minimum.
SOLD
Item #1F1810BFLP

Remington Double Derringer Model 3, Type II (antique)

Remington Over/Under Type II "Derringer", manufactured circa 1888-1911, but this one is a low serial number indicating pre-1898 manufacture, so considered an antique; .41 caliber rimfire, 2-shot.
These guns have an illustrious history and are best associated with gamblers of the old west.
Gun is in fair to good condition, but has one hinge-point broken loose from the frame, therefore making this gun unsafe to fire (even with black-powder ammunition); also one grip is cracked into three pieces. Gun is otherwise complete.

Not for sale outside the USA; must be 18 years of age, minimum.
SOLD
Item #1F1898RDDP

Moore's Patent Firearms Company
Front-loading Revolver
"Teat-Fire"
Manufactured circa 1864-1870

Cartridge type, front-loading, .32 caliber, revolver, six-shot. Approximately 20,000 manufactured. This is the 1st Model without hook extractor. Low 4-digit serial number.
Unusual "teat-fire" ignition system.
Engraved brass frame, originally silver plated but none remains; 3-1/2" barrel and cylinder originally blued but no bluing remains. Light to moderate scattered pitting on cylinder and barrel; appears to have been stored on this one side - as in a boot - in an environment where body salts were present. Resultantly pitting is heavier (moderate to heavy) on that side (left). "Bird's-head" butt, walnut grips. No visible markings.

According to one article found on these pistols, "Quite a few of these were known to have been privately purchased by Union officers - and enlisted men - and carried during the Civil War."

Gun is in fair to good condition, but is complete and operational. This is a decent representative sample of a very popular Civl War era boot pistol.

Percussion Derringer, marked James Conning / Mobile

This is an interesting piece. It is marked on the barrel JAMES CONNING over MOBILE (two lines). Now I did not know that James Conning of Mobile, Alabama made any type of arms other than swords, but I was aware that he had gunsmiths on the payroll, such as Louis Bissonnet during the Civil War. It is also well known that the South produced quite a number of Derringer copies (see Civil War Guns by William B. Edwards. Chapter 12 is titled The Southern Pistol - The Derringer).
This particular example is ~.44 caliber percussion, with a barrel just a tad over 3". There are no markings on the gun, with the exception of the aforementioned James Conning, etc.
I know little of this gun except that I am about 100% certain that the stock is not original. I am about 75% certain that all the furniture is original with the exception of two screws - one holding the rear of the lockplate and the other holding the rear of the trigger-guard. The internal workings appear to be old original types. The barrel breech has been filed in modern times to fit into the new stock. It appears that the gun may have been in a fire at some time and the re-stock was an attempt at salvaging the gun in its entirety; this was unfortunate indeed. The percussion nipple has long disintegrated (rusted) and it appears that part of it may be inside the hollow of the hammer. There is a full-length crack in the stock fore-end where a pin has been driven through. Someone was trying to salvage this piece for a reason. Gun is not functional. Iron lockplate, hammer, and barrel (may have been re-blued at some time), with some engraving; trigger-guard is brass, with some engraving.
I am pretty sure the stampings are original as they are consistent with stampings found on Conning swords.
The man I bought it from knew nothing about it except that it was left to him in a will (in Texas); he could not elaborate as to why and could not offer additional information.

Please e-mail C. Alan Russell if further details or images are required.
